During the International Congress on Animal Reproduction ICAR 2008 held in Budapest July 13th to 17th, the "Simmet Prize for Assisted Reproduction" was awaded to Prof. Cesare Galli. The prize consists of a plate with the seal of ICAR and a prize of € 50,000.
The Simmet Prize is on his first assignment and was established by Simmet family in memory of Dr. Ludwig Simmet, initiator and founder of Minitube (a major German company in many countries in the field of animal reproduction), dead in 2007.
The Simmet Prize today is certainly the most important recognition for those working in research and technology transfer for the reproduction of farm animals.
The award ceremony took place during the opening of the international congress held every four years, hosting more than 1200 delegates from all over the world.
The President of ICAR, American Prof. William Thatcher, presented the Award and illustrated the contribution and achievements of Prof. Galli, always shared with Giovanna Lazzari, in the field of animal assisted reproduction. After the award ceremony, in the presence of the sons of Ludwig Simmet, Prof. Galli opened the proceedings of the conference with the lecture titled "The manipulation of gametes and embryos in farm animals. This award crowns a twenty years of hard and serious work began in Cambridge (UK) by the couple Lazzari-Galli continued in Cremona in Avantea laboratory, as recite the award criteria: originality of the research (pioneer in the field of animal reproduction, development of new technologies, contributing to develop industry), experimental approach (new and experimental superior methodologies, sharing with the scientific community) and leadership ( innovator and scholar recognized by his peers, serving the scientific community, generosity and willingness to convey his own results to others).
