  • Prof. George Seidel, distinguished Professor, Department of Biomedical Sciences and Head of Animal Reproduction and Biotechnology Laboratory at Colorado State University. “Reproductive biotechnoogies for animal breeding and selection”
  • Prof. Ian Wilmut, Director of the Center for Regenerative Medicine, University of Edinburgh, “The role of somatic cell nuclear transfer in biomedical research and regenerative medicine”
  • Dott.ssa Giovanna Lazzari, President of the Scientific Committee and founder of the Avantea Foundation, "Scopi e finalità della ricerca scientifica della Fondazione Avantea” e presentazione del Comitato Scientifico.

Avantea Foundation was formed in March 2010 by Prof Cesare Galli and dr.ssa Giovanna Lazzari with the aim of collecting economical resources to be addressed in some areas of basic research that involved from one side, animal husbandry and on the other the effects on human health, giving the opportunity to young graduates and researchers to grow their knowledge in this area and to create in Cremona, the capital of Italian livestock, a national and international landmark in the reproductive technologies both in the field of animal husbandry and biomedicine. Of these great potential, the speakers this morning have given immediate evidence.

Today it is possible to ensure increased opportunities and development in the field of livestock (eg allowing to choose the sex or to get to the 'creation' of animals increasingly robust and long-lived thanks to the techniques of conservation and genetic improvement), but also aim to expand the tools to combat human suffering today particularly severe, and in some case also hopeless: Parkinson's disease, ALS, hereditary disease, certain forms of blindness and other rare human diseases. The Foundation Avantea, in this context, gives voice to the skills present in Cremona to give clear answers in terms of advanced scientific research.
