20th-25th September 2017 – Baltimore, USA: International Xenotransplantation Association and Swine in Biomedical Research Conference

The 6th Swine in Biomedical Research Conference (SBR) was held in conjunction with the 14th Congress of the International Xenotransplantation Association (IXA) in Baltimore between the 20th and 25th of September.

The International Xenotransplantation Association (IXA) was established at the Montreal '98 Congress of The Transplantation Society, with the aim of providing a forum for those with a special interest in Xenotransplantation. The IXA 14th congress saw the presence numerous leading researchers and business leaders presenting on the latest advancements in the field of xenotransplantation. The 6th SBR conference focused on the increasingly relevant role of swine as principal provider of organs and tissues for transplant.

As a leader in xenotransplantation research with long-established expertise and achievements in the field of animal genetic engineering – and in particular on swine – Avantea attended both events and was represented by Prof. Cesare Galli, who chaired a plenary session on “Frontiers in Genetic Engineering”
