Preparing your mare: what you need to know
Proper preparation is essential to achieve the best results.
Before OPU
- Donor mare assessment (to confirm an adequate number of follicles)
- Stallion selection and semen availability
- Submission of documentation (contract and authorisations)
- Any required health tests (e.g. CEM, Coggins test for EU export)
- Booking the procedure
On the day of OPU
- Procedure lasting approximately 30–45 minutes
- Post-procedure monitoring for 2–3 hours
- Return to the stable on the same day
After OPU
- The mare can quickly return to her normal activities
- Laboratory fertilisation in the following days
- A report within approximately 10 days, including the number of embryos produced
- The option to schedule the embryo transfer at the most suitable time
