Avantea and Peterson & Smith Equine Reproduction Center in Florida, USA, entered a partnership to form Equigea, which is aimed at providing the most advanced commercial services in equine assisted reproduction by combining the resources and expertise of its founders.
Equigea brings together three of the most prominent individuals in assisted equine reproduction, Dr. Phil Matthews, Dr. Edward Squires and Prof. Cesare Galli from Avantea. Each of the partners has over 30 years of experience and expertise in developing reproductive techniques and applying them in a commercial setting.
Dr. Phil Matthews has been the director of Peterson & Smith Equine Reproduction Center since 1999, handling over 600 mares each year and overseeing high volume ambulatory practice.
Dr. Ed Squires is a pioneer in equine reproductive techniques, a field in which he has published over 350 peer-reviewed articles and 20 chapters in textbooks. Together with his team he produced the first foal from sperm injection in the USA and the first foal from a frozen embryo and frozen oocyte.
