Genetic Rescue has been selected by "Italy of Innovators", an initiative promoted by the Italian government to recognise the most innovative business ventures in the country.
In the tragic occurrence of accidents that interrupt forever the sporting path of great champions, the Genetic Rescue technology offers the possibility to carry on their reproductive career.
This technology consists in the recovery of the ovaries, after euthanasia or death for the most various causes, and in the collection of the oocytes that are located into the ovarian follicles. Afterwards the oocytes are fertilized in vitro by microinjection of one sperm into each oocyte (IntraCytoplasmic Sperm Injection) and cultured in an incubator until they reach the embryo stage suitable of direct transfer into recipient mares or for freezing and storage for future transfer.
The Genetic Rescue service was selected by “Italy of Innovators” for the 2011/2012 edition.
Ava, three-time Italian champion, has participated to several international competitions including two Olympiads, two European Championships, three Badminton international Horse Trials, one Burghley and one Pau competition. She died suddenly in 2010 at the age of 18 years, victim of an accident.
The service offered by Avantea includes the derivation of animal cell lines from skin biopsy and their storage in liquid nitrogen for the period required by the customer. This service is carried out in order to preserve the genetic heritage and for a possible cloning of the animal from which the cell lines have been generated.
Avantea also offers to veterinarians the service of expansion and storage of equine mesenchymal stem cells, both derived from bone marrow and adipose tissue, for a possible clinical use in musculoskeletal system diseases.
